The Importance of Protecting the Subconscious Mind

I realized something recently during a networking exercise: I'm passionate about protecting the subconscious mind.

Since the day my first sweet child was born, I have wanted to protect that precious part of her. As soon as my son came along, I wanted to do the same for him.

In University, during my first degree, I took a course called Human Development. A good deal of the learning focussed on neuroscience. The information was so important that I wished it was a prerequisite for all people who planned to have children.

Although the subconscious mind is often presented as a mysterious entity, it's really just part of the brain, made up of a network of specific pathways.

Many of those pathways are formed in early childhood and comprise our fundamental belief system, which in turn, affects pretty much every singly aspect of our lives.

Since the subconscious mind runs the show, it's critical to protect it. Whatever we let in has an impact. Thoughts, images, words, music, sounds; they all go in there to create the web of who we are.

I cringe at the violence inflicted upon our subconscious. Media, movies, video games, TV shows, apps, advertising; they can all do so much harm if we aren't vigilant.

With our kids, my husband and I have made consistent choices to be their shield and to avoid the unnecessary barrage of negativity. As a result, we have two of the most loving, emotionally-literate, thoughtful, kind human beings I have ever met.

As they get older, of course we can't protect them from everything, so we are teaching them strategies on how to maintain their inner environment at its high energetic vibration.

They are strategies we use ourselves. We've picked them up over the years through our personal development and we use what works.

Three specific tools we use are:

  1. The Mentality Shield (click here for that post)
  2. Ho'Oponopono (coming soon)
  3. Affirmations (coming soon)

There are many more ways we can protect the subconscious, of course. One of the most important decisions we made many years ago was no news; on TV, radio or in newspapers.

When I suggest that strategy during my talks and workshops, some people get really riled up. "How will I stay informed?" they demand.

Honestly, I feel much better off not being part of the media machine because it's designed to make people worry. Fear sells. I'm not buying it.

Anything that's truly important, we trust that we'll find out, without glorification.

In our house, we talk about high and low vibration because that's what it really boils down to. I choose to let in those things that will maintain or increase my energetic vibration. The other stuff is an assault to my subconscious and I refuse to let it in.

Why do people want to share "bad news" anyway? Because it makes them feel powerful. They feel important by passing it along.

Instead, I choose to feel powerful and important by lifting other people up. That's true power.

Next time you feel compelled to share bad news or tune into negative media, I invite you to pause and ask yourself if it's really worth putting your subconscious in jeopardy. What you consume stays there for a lifetime, unless you invest the time and energy to weed it out.

It's much easier to keep it out in the first place.

If we, as human beings, collectively understood the importance of protecting our subconscious minds, we would have world peace. Imagine that.
