How much does fear run your life?

Uncategorized Sep 10, 2024

Ah… fear. So sneaky. So pervasive. And yet, so useful and informative.

When it boils down to it, there are two main experiences we humans can have - love or fear.

Every emotional/vibrational experience that doesn’t feel so great has its roots in fear. And every emotional experience that feels great is a form of love.

Actually, it’s all love because ultimately, that’s all there is, but fear is a great clarifier. It shows us where we have an opportunity to grow and integrate.

Love tends to propel us forward into expansion. Fear tends to contract us and hold us back where things are familiar.

If you feel stuck, stagnant, overwhelmed or even on the brink of a breakthrough, it’s worth taking a good look at fear to see how it’s showing up.

Here are some sneaky ways that fear might be lurking in your life:

Fear of what others will think of you

This version of fear is quite hilarious. For example, I’ve been totally okay to get up on a stage and do things like lipsynch to New Kids on the Block (Hello 1990s school air band contest) or do a line dance I made up about cleaning products in front of hundreds of people, but for years, I was held back by a different version of the same fear and thus created all sorts of wonderful experiences that I told exactly 0 people about. (A most challenging way to run a business I discovered.

Fear of disappointing people

People pleasing, anyone? That’s usually where this problematic habit originates. Some people I’ve worked insanely hard to please include my parents, teachers, professors, employers, husband, kids… okay, I think most people I’ve ever met would turn up on my list. Good thing I’ve been unwinding this one for a while. So much more energy and happiness are turning up!

Fear of feeling uncomfortable emotions

This one keeps us so stuck and is responsible for most issues that turn up in the body. Suppressing emotions leads to stuck energy and the body will do its darndest to let you know what’s going on.

Fear of making the wrong choice

This variant of fear ranges from trying on 67 outfits before deciding what to wear for the day to buying houses, determining what to do with your life, “finding” your purpose (in quotations because it’s not about finding it, it’s about opening up to what’s already there and listening to your inner guidance), choosing a partner in life and so on.

Fear of missing out

Got thousands of emails in your inbox? Ever consider why? Often it’s a fear of missing out on a good deal or “important” information.

Fear of making a mistake

Perfectionists of the world! You’ll be familiar with this one. It was a long time before I realized that a part of me equated making a mistake to death. That’s a lot of pressure to live with!

Fear of death

This one’s a biggie that lives under the surface for most of humanity and influences every single minute of every single day. Personally, I’ve done a lot of reflection around death and can say I’m not afraid of dying or of most other people dying… except for my kids. More on that below.

Fear of failure

So maybe you don’t even try.

Fear of success

So maybe you try too many things and get overwhelmed. Greetings, stress and anxiety.

Those are just a few of the faces of fear. It’s definitely a thing.

Here’s the important thing. Fear is not something to GET RID OF. That’s not the solution. Instead, we want to integrate fear because when we do that? It turns into passion that fuels you into your expansion.

The most expedient and effective ways I’ve found to integrate fear include:

>spiritual perspectives (like what I share with my coaching clients)

>yoga (especially the kind I got certified to teach)

>daily breathwork (such as Central Channel Breathing)

September 9D Breathwork Journey - Transcending Fear

That leads me to this month’s 9D breathwork journey called Transcending Fear. OMG - it’s powerful.

When I did the session a few weeks ago, I expected it would be quite a ride and I wasn’t disappointed.

Part way through, I had a revelation. Ever since the day I got pregnant with my daughter, I’ve experienced a pervasive and persistent fear around losing her and that got compounded when my son came along.

Over the last two decades, I’ve worked with the fear on and off but not in a head-on kind of way. Mostly I just tried to pep talk myself out of it.

During the breathwork session, I realized this: my grandma lost a child when he was in his early 20s. Then my uncle on the same side lost his child (my cousin) in her 20s.

Of course I already knew these things but during the journey it was like a laser beam of clarity. I wasn’t making up the fear of losing children. It’s travelled with me not as a possibility but as a reality in my DNA from my grandma and then got activated when I had my own kids.

Then I realized that I’m the one who gets to heal this for multiple generations in both directions. I’m up for it because I have powerful tools like breathwork and am willing to go deep.

Ever since the journey, things have been different. Something for sure got released and a sense of peace took up residence in the empty space. I don’t have the day-to-day worry about my kids and the low-grade anxiety that was so familar. What a relief.

The awesome thing about these breathwork journeys is that you could have a completely different thing shift. The body works on a priority basis and knows what it’s ready to liberate.

You could transcend fear about money, being abandoned, not being enough, something from childhood, any of the fears listed previously or something different. All you have to do is show up, do the work and bask in the results.

We can trade 75 minutes of discomfort for liberation on so many levels. To me, it’s so worth it.

I hope you’ll join us for the Transcending Fear journey later this month. There are two choices for dates and either session gives you access to the replay for 48 hours if you can’t make it live (or if you want to do it again!)

May you have a week of breakthroughs and expansion.

Also coming up later this month: The Courageous Self-Care ¾ Year Review

September brings with it both the energy of a fresh start and the call to reflect. That’s what we’ll be doing in our 90ish minute workshop-style call.

You’ll get practical experience in honouring what has already happened so far this year, and then we’ll set some intentions for the last quarter of 2024 so that you know what to do next as things wind up.

One of the key teachings in Courageous Self-Care is to create a better relationship with time, and one way to do that is to look to the past with gratitude (rather than regret and doubt) and towards the future with anticipation and excitement (rather than fear and worry).

You can expect to leave the session with

  • Increased clarity (so you can make plans that align with your values and thus feel more fulfilled)
  • More energy (because we’ll be doing fun things like dancing and celebrating)
  • A sense of refreshment (because we’ll be taking a break from all the go-go-GO!)
  • The realization that you’ve had more success than you gave yourself credit for

You’ll also feel so organized and proud of yourself for taking action towards the life you really want to be living.

The song I’d like to recommend to you this week is called Exhale Inhale by Aurora. (See? Even music tells us that breath is the solution!)

This song is so very pretty and etheric. The lyrics are multi-layered. Basically, it feels like looking up at the night sky filled with stars and milky way beauty.
