Have you ever been advised to find your purpose? Find your passion and make it work for you? Unfortunately, that advice may be causing hidden stress. Hi, I'm Christina Marlett, creator of Courageous Self-Care, and author of the best selling book, How Ugly Awkward Dancing Changes Everything. Yep, that's me. Instead of asking, "How can I find my purpose?" Today I'm going to give you three better questions to ask yourself. For the best advice on self care that goes beyond bubble baths, chocolate and wine, make sure to subscribe to the channel and hit the bell to be notified when a new video is posted every Thursday.

A lot of people in the personal development space tell you that it's important to find your purpose so that you can feel happy and fulfilled. I disagree. I think there is a much better quest that you can go on. By the end of this video you'll learn why finding your passion, and your purpose may be causing you hidden stress, and what to do instead. I've used what I'm going to share with you as my own personal philosophy for years and now I'm going to share it with you. Oh, lucky day! Be sure to stick around until the end of this video because I've created an absolute must have resource for you.

Question one, where should I put my focus? We've been told that once we uncover our life's purpose then we can live our life in the way that we've been destined to do. But then that creates other questions, "Am I really finding my purpose?" "What if I got my purpose wrong and I'm wasting my life?" "Is my job my purpose?" Oh, the pressure! Several years ago I was listening to a spiritual leader who was absolutely brilliant, her name is Dr. Carol Carne s. She said, "You know, everyone, I know you've been told to find your life's purpose, but that is so heavy, and it's creating all this unnecessary stress."

She told us the better question to ask instead. You want to know? It's a game changer. What she said is, "We're not seeking our purpose. What we're seeking is ways to feel fully alive." What you focus on expands, so what do you want to expand? Self doubt and stress? Or, energy and that feeling of aliveness? So, question number one, "Where should I put my focus?" Well, not on determining your life's purpose, the better place to your focus is on what makes me feel fully alive? Sounds simple right?

Question number two, now that you are armed with the better question of where to focus, the next thing to ask yourself is, "What does make me feel fully alive?" This is a form of courageous self-care. Knowing what makes you feel fully alive, and well, and joyful, and fulfilled, is the best way I know to take care of yourself. I encourage you to make a list.

Like right now, pull out a pen and a paper, or take a pause and think of three things that you absolutely love to do. What makes you feel fully alive? And now, I want to know, what does make you feel fully alive? Please take a moment to share in the comments. Your answer will give other people ideas as well. So, don't be shy, we're creating a community here. Please enter in something that makes you feel fully alive in the comments below.

Question three, what's the one thing I can do today to ensure that I feel fully alive? This answer involves courage, because a lot of us at a deep level don't actually believe that we deserve to feel happy and fulfilled. So many people plan for happiness in the future, "I'll be happy when I lose 10 pounds." "I'll be happy when I live in my dream home." "I'll be happy when I meet my soulmate." "I'll be happy when I finally find my purpose." Guess what? You deserve to feel alive and happy right now. And how do you know that you deserve it? I love this phrase, I tried to find who said it first but I couldn't, but it goes, 'If you're breathing, you deserve it.' Plain and simple.

I know that you're breathing, so you can assure yourself if you ever feel that doubt, "I don't think I deserve this." Wait a second, "I am breathing. I do deserve this." Now you know the three questions that will help you move from the stress of trying to find your life's purpose into feeling fully alive. So, how are you going to make sure that you take action on those three questions?

I've created a PDF so that you can print it off and record what makes you feel happy, and alive, and you can post it on the wall so that you make sure that you do at least one of those things every day. It looks like this. Clipboard not included. You can get the link to download that PDF in the description below this video.
